Concrete Pool Decks
Create a safe, beautiful, and durable surface around your pool that lasts for decades.

Why Concrete Is Perfect for Pool Decks
Your pool deck needs to handle constant water exposure, heavy foot traffic, pool chemicals, and changing weather conditions. Concrete meets all these challenges while providing the look you want at a price that makes sense.
Unlike wood, concrete does not rot, splinter, or warp. It stays cooler underfoot than dark pavers on hot summer days. It provides a non-slip surface when properly finished. And it can be customized to match any style, from modern minimalist to traditional elegance.
Concrete pool decks also require less maintenance than many alternatives. You will not spend your weekends refinishing wood or replacing broken pavers. A simple cleaning and periodic resealing keep your concrete pool deck looking great year after year.
Benefits of Concrete Pool Decks
- •Slip-resistant surfaces keep swimmers safe in wet conditions
- •Cooler surface temperature compared to dark pavers or composite materials
- •Resists damage from pool chemicals, UV rays, and freeze-thaw cycles
- •Seamless surface prevents weeds and makes cleaning easy
- •Customizable colors, textures, and patterns to match your style
- •Long lifespan of 25 years or more with proper maintenance
Pool Deck Design Options
Your pool deck should complement your pool and backyard while meeting practical needs. We offer several finish options that combine beauty with safety and comfort.
Textured Broom Finish
A broom finish creates fine lines in the concrete that provide excellent traction when wet. This is the most practical and economical choice for pool decks. The texture is comfortable to walk on barefoot while offering enough grip to prevent slips. You can add integral color to enhance the appearance without sacrificing function.
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete transforms your pool deck into a work of art. We can create patterns that look like natural stone, slate, travertine, or wood. You choose the pattern and colors to match your vision. Stamped concrete provides texture for slip resistance while delivering high-end appearance. This is our most popular decorative option for pool decks and patios.
Spray Deck Texture
A spray deck finish applies a textured coating over the concrete surface. This creates an attractive, slip-resistant surface in various colors. The texture is comfortable underfoot and helps keep the surface cooler than plain concrete. Spray deck finishes work well for refreshing existing pool decks or as an economical decorative option.
Exposed Aggregate
Exposed aggregate reveals the natural beauty of stones within the concrete mix. This finish provides excellent slip resistance and stays relatively cool in direct sun. The varied colors of the exposed stones create visual interest and hide dirt well. Exposed aggregate works beautifully around pools and blends naturally with landscaping.
Stained and Colored Concrete
We can add color to concrete through integral pigments mixed into the concrete or acid stains applied after curing. Colors range from subtle earth tones to vibrant hues. Multiple colors can create borders, patterns, or artistic designs. Colored concrete adds personality to your pool area without the cost of more elaborate finishes.
Safety and Functionality Matter
Pool decks must balance aesthetics with safety and function. Here are the critical factors we address in every pool deck installation.
Slip Resistance
Preventing slips and falls is the top priority for any pool deck. We use finishes that provide adequate texture for wet conditions. We never recommend smooth trowel finishes around pools because they become dangerously slippery when wet. Even decorative finishes like stamping include enough texture to keep feet secure.
Proper Drainage
Standing water on pool decks creates safety hazards and promotes algae growth. We grade the deck surface to direct water away from the pool and toward drains or landscaping. A slope of one quarter inch per foot provides drainage without being noticeable when walking. Proper drainage also prevents water from flowing toward your home or undermining the deck base.
Surface Temperature
Dark surfaces absorb heat and can become uncomfortably hot in summer sun. We recommend lighter colors that reflect heat and stay cooler. Certain finishes like exposed aggregate naturally stay cooler than smooth concrete. We can also apply special cooling coatings that further reduce surface temperature.
Deck Width and Layout
Building codes typically require at least 4 feet of deck around pools. We recommend wider decks where space allows, typically 6 to 10 feet. This provides room for lounge chairs, walkways, and safe movement around the pool. We plan the layout to include areas for seating, entry and exit points, and any special features like built-in grills or fire pits.
Expansion Joints
Concrete expands and contracts with temperature changes. We install expansion joints that allow this movement without cracking. Joints around the pool perimeter prevent the deck from pushing against the pool structure. Control joints placed at regular intervals manage cracking so it occurs in planned locations rather than randomly across the deck.
